 Unison Research Unico CD Player

Unison Research Unico CD Player

The Unison Research Unico CD Player is an integral part of the Unico range, both in appearance and in electronic design. It employs leading-edge technology and features some of the latest and best components, including D-to-A conversion chipset's from Crystal and a microprocessor from Philips which takes care of disc reading and information display functions. All the necessary information is shown on a large 8192-pixel screen capable of both text and picture display. The screen is back-lit and has fully automatic brightness adjustment which adapts to the ambient lighting to provide ease of reading at all light levels. The CD transport chosen is of a very high-quality. The motors incorporated in the transport are of the low-vibration, brushless, asynchronous type. The laser has a glass lens, which is superior to the plastic lenses used in most CD players. The guides and supports for the moving parts of the tray are lapped steel (not plastic), and the output signal from this transport is an S/PDIF. As an added bonus the mechanism is mounted on a rubber suspension to reduce the possibility of vibration affecting the reading capability of the laser diode. The signal is filtered by a passive network and sent to a valve pre-amp stage which operates in pure Class-A using 1 x ECC82 double triode for each channel. Audio output signals are provided in both balanced and low-impedance unbalanced (>100 Ohms) mode. Output: Digital and analogue.

 Unison Research Unico Integrated Amplifier

Unison Research Unico Integrated Amplifier

The Unison Research Unico is a stereo integrated amplifier using both valve and solid state technology. It is the result of many years of original research aimed at providing superb musical performance from a compact, well-equipped and affordable amplifier. The combination of a pure triode input stage with a MOSFET output stage provides the pleasing sonic character of a well-designed tube amplifier. It will appeal to music lovers and audiophiles alike for its convincingly natural musical presentation. The mains transformer, which following Unison Research tradition has been designed and handmade in their own workshops, and the bank of power supply capacitors are of very generous proportions. The power output Mosfets are fitted to a massive 1kg heat sink to ensure optimum thermal stability, and fully protected against overload by an automatic electronic circuit. Both the input selector and volume control are top quality components, specially selected for long term reliability. And as with all Unison Research products, Unico is a robustly constructed unit, with a heavy chassis and an attractive faceplate in satin aluminium. Anodized satin aluminium control knobs complete the frontal design. Control of volume is via a radio wave link from a neat and stylish remote handset. This feature means that the volume can be adjusted from a position out of sight of the amplifier, indeed from another room if necessary. Output: 2 x 80W into 8 ohms.
